Looking for an essential oil to help you feel angelic? Angelica archangelica is a serene choice for you.
Treasured as the ‘holy spirit oil’ and the ‘oil of angels’, Angelica was considered so profound and potent, it was believed to have come from the divine.
As all essential oils come from plants, we figure they are all divine! But let’s run with Angelica being the most divine of divine – we get the gist of what they meant, so we won’t split hairs.
Its history is rich and deep. Legend has it that Angelica harks back to the time of Paracelsus, a renowned and often controversial German-Swiss physician, alchemist and chemist back in the late 1400s through to mid-1500s.
Paracelsus was open-minded to all kinds of things to take care of health and well-being and explored high and low across many different fields during his time studying at various universities and his subsequent professional life. He firmly rejected the prevalent belief at the time that the planets and the stars controlled every part of the human body. He also had a very high opinion of himself from the sounds of it. He could have benefited from inhaling Young Living Humility™ essential oil blend regularly had it been on offer back then, but we won’t let a big noggin’ negate the many contributions he made.
It was reputed that Angelica was considered an all-round saviour of sorts in times that were vastly more tough and challenging than today’s when you consider our cleanliness, sanitation and general comfort levels. Whenever I watch a period movie set back in those times, I give thanks for flushing toilets and running water, not to mention air-conditioning. We say times are tough – and they are – but those olden days bore a bunch of debilitating problems none of us want to revisit again.
Anyway, from the era of Paracelsus through to modern day life, Angelica seeds and roots have been thought to cleanse the air, help us relax and restore our sense of happiness. Nowadays we can simply open a bottle of Young Living Angelica essential oil and add it to our diffuser to enjoy this beautiful ritual and freshen our homes’ air and our own vibes.
Even the name sounds like the angels are singing and sunlight is pouring through stained glass windows in magnificent cathedrals! Angelica archangelica is steam distilled from the root (its rhizome root is akin to those of ginger and turmeric) and the plants are grown in Belgium and France.
Angelica is exceptionally high in Beta-Phellandrene at 60-80%, with the balance mostly comprised of Alpha-Pinene (5-10%) and Limonene (1-4%). You can look these up in a good essential oils reference book for more information on their specific influences.
Angelica is wonderfully relaxing and tremendous for all kinds of releasing both physically and from a feelings standpoint.
While it’s relaxing, it can also have a stimulating effect. If you’re a very sensitive soul, you’ll find a small amount of Angelica essential oil will go a long way. So do take it easy while you’re using it and assess how it’s influencing you and adjust the amount you’re using appropriately.
When used with journaling and meditation, Angelica helps you to release pent up negativity and anger. It’s like a reset button to aid in letting go of blockages and old hurts and grievances so they stop doing you harm and standing in your way.
Young Living makes Angelica available as a single oil (when there’s sufficient supply) and also includes it as a vitally important ingredient that helps the other essential oils work together in several blends for optimal benefits. You’ll find Angelica in Awaken™, Forgiveness™, Grounding™, Harmony™ and Surrender™.
Just looking at these blend names gives you a great sense of how you can incorporate Angelica into your life to help you through many arduous and challenging situations. If you can’t find Angelica in stock as a single oil, you can avail yourself of its beautiful benefits by using one of these gorgeous blends.
All of these are suitable for diffusing, inhaling directly from the bottle and applying topically over chakra points and any locations that feel good to you. As always, dilute as needed and never use oils in delicate areas. Angelica can bring out extra sensitivity in skin exposed to sunlight within 24 hours of application, so do be mindful of that when using this exquisite oil or these blends topically.
