My hair styling routine involves a quick shampoo in the shower, conditioner for special occasions, and running my trusty comb through my locks if winds exceed gale force.
If that sounds like you, feel free to swing on past this post.
If not, here are a few all-natural tips that have been passed on to me. I thought you might like to take them for a spin.
Natural Hairspray (aka “Help-I’ve-run-out-of-my-usual-hairspray” Hairspray)
Dissolve a teaspoon of honey or organic Agave* in ½ cup of warm water. Pour into a spray bottle. Mist this sweet liquid sugar lightly over your hair. You can also spritz a little onto a toothbrush and smooth it along your hairline to tame fly-aways.
* Young Living supplies a wonderful Blue Agave syrup from Agave Tequilana. Its low glycemic index and naturally sweet flavour makes it popular for use in foods and beverages — not just home-made hairspray recipes.
Protein Mask / Hair Gel
Next time you’re making jelly or jello, dissolve a packet of clear gelatin in hot water and treat your hair to a protein mask while you’re at it. Gelatin is high in protein that can help strengthen the hair shaft. Massage the mixture through your hair, leave in for half an hour or so then rinse.
The same mixture can be put in a jar, refrigerated, and used as a styling gel. It should keep for several days or more.
Hair Extensions Clean-Up
To remove excess glue after having hair extensions, apply a little good quality olive oil over the tracks of the extensions and let it soak in for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse and the glue residue will vanish.
And here’s a bonus tip …
Not from your pantry, but from your handbag. It requires no mixing, blending or waiting. Simply take your tube of Young Living Cinnamint™ Lip Balm or other favourite beeswax lip balm, apply a little to your fingertips and spike through your hair to add some definition to your style just as you would with a specialised hair wax. It will also help combat hairline frizz. How handy is that?! Come to think of it, I might even be tempted to give this one a try. (For help with ordering Young Living products, click here.)
