“There are receptors to these molecules in your immune system, in your gut and in your heart. So when you say, ‘I have a gut feeling’ or ‘my heart is sad’ or ‘I am bursting with joy,’ you’re not speaking metaphorically. You’re speaking literally.” Deepak Chopra

Here’s a ‘chicken and the egg’ kind of question for you.

Which comes first? Feeling good physically or feeling good emotionally?

Ask someone who’s sweating out a fever under a mound of doonas and twisted sheets and you’ll chalk up a ‘Yes’ vote for the physical side of things.

On the other hand, stress is one of the biggest threats to our state of health and wellbeing. Most of us have a friend-of-a-friend who spent years doing everything ‘right’ when it came to exercise and eating nutritiously but was chronically overloaded with work and life commitments — and suddenly succumbed to an illness. Or maybe they started experiencing mysterious malaises that doctors couldn’t pin down. They probably felt great physically for quite a while up until then, but were so emotionally taxed that eventually, their bodies had to give.

This is just one reason we spend so much time here at The Good Oil Daily giving you regular tips on using essential oils for relaxation, and using them as tools for finding your way through tumultuous, self-defeating or upsetting feelings so they don’t undermine the foundations of your physical wellbeing.

But back to that soggy fever-drenched huddle, which can be quite common at this time of year. Let’s look at physical ways of prevention and fortifying your winter defences. Taking care of the basics is a huge help!

  • Plenty of sleep
  • Plenty of pure H2O and healthful hydration (think herbal teas and nourishing broths)
  • Plenty of restful cocooning time (think funny DVDs, light-hearted TV shows, listening to music, playing Scrabble)
  • Saying ‘No’ if you need some downtime (there’s a great expression that goes something like this: ‘Take care of yourself so you can take care of others’ and sometimes saying ‘No’ kindly is the only way you can do that)
  • Diffuse air-cleansing essential oils to help keep your home and office fresh and minimise nasties that can find their way into the air (citrus oils are great for cleansing as well as being ‘happy’ oils)
  • Young Living ImmuPower™ essential oil blend is fabulous rubbed into your feet when you rise and shine and go to bed. If you get the chance, reapplying it during the day will further bolster your own inbuilt defences

To learn more about how to choose essential oils for any particular area you’d like to target, there are plenty of excellent books around which explore how essential oils work and their various special attributes.
