The menfolk might not thank me for today’s post. If you have any women in your household, you likely know the pain of having insufficient bathrooms to ensure one at your disposal when you need it — no matter how many bathrooms you might have. So you probably don’t want me encouraging anyone to cocoon themselves in there on a cold winter’s night.
Look away now.
If you’re still here, I’m guessing you’re already well versed in the art of mysterious bathing rituals.
I’m no expert in these matters, so I polled my family and here are their top three ways to create an essential oil spa of sorts in your own bathroom.
Set a comfortable temperature
You’re lying in a hazy tub of oily warm water, feeling relaxed, cosy and ready to put on the PJs and climb into bed. Then you have to climb out. Major mood kill if the air temperature is arctic. Some might vouch for leaping outside and rolling around in the snow at this point, but today, we’re setting invigoration aside and focusing on cocooning. Turn on the eco-heater, promise to switch your electricity account to green energy — and make sure you have a plush, fluffy towel within easy reach.
Make your oil and water mix
Essential oils are not soluble in water, so they don’t disperse evenly if you add them straight to the tub. Instead, add several drops to a tablespoon of organic carrier oil (olive is a great all-rounder and probably in your pantry) or Young Living V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex, then add this mix under the running water. (Comfortably warm, not hot!)
The skin-nourishing carrier oil will absorb and nurture you along with the essential oil benefits while you’re soaking. Lavender angustifolia is ideal (found in the Everyday Oils kit), and some favourite Young Living blends for this purpose are Harmony™ and Sensation™. (Sensation is also available as a ready-mixed massage oil so you can pour a hefty splash of this if preferred.) If bubbles are more your style, no problem! Just add the essential oils to your favourite natural bath or shower gel instead. (Young Living has a ready-made range of these, too.)
This will also connect you up with The Good Oil Team for our personal support and coaching. We'd love to help you on your journey to vibrant well-being the natural way!

Pure scented light
Scented candles usually contain synthetic fragrances and petrochemicals, so your most natural choice is unscented candles made with 100% renewable plant wax from sustainable sources or organic beeswax. Beeswax has the added benefits of producing negative ions. Combine this with diffusing essential oils and you have a beautifully scented cocoon with a golden honey glow and none of the toxins. Amplify the effects of the essential oils you chose for your bathwater by diffusing the same ones. Use them undiluted in your diffuser — simply follow the instructions that come with it.
That’s it from my unofficial spa gurus, but I’ll add another tip of my own: time your bathing cocoon for a sporting event broadcast and you’ll be less likely to need a Do Not Disturb sign on the door.
