Have you read Steven Pressfield’s The War of Art?
This best-selling author is another example of an ‘overnight sensation’ who was decades of inner-demon battles in the making. From his personal experience with self-defeating behaviours and blocks that are well-known to most creatives, he crafted a guidebook that is filled with ‘a-ha!’ moments and centred around what he calls ‘resistance’: that force which manifests itself in so many different ways to keep you from your life’s work, no matter whether you’re an artist, writer or using applied creativity in any field whatsoever.
I highly recommend reading it and keeping it by your bedside to continue reading a bit from cover to cover every day to help keep you on track.
Resistance is the voice that tells you tomorrow would be more suited to starting your project than today. Resistance has you cleaning the cupboards and de-cluttering when you know you should be facing a blank page on your computer or drawing board and making a start, even if it’s a very, very ordinary one. Resistance has you telling yourself you should go for a walk to make inspiration strike even though as Picasso said, it needs to find you working.
But what do you use to do battle with resistance?
The War of Art has plenty of actions you can take. And essential oils will also help you to do battle in the sweetest-smelling and most divine of ways!

All of the blends we’ve mentioned here are awesome for diffusing and inhaling directly from the bottle.
Young Living Inspiration™
Rich in oils traditionally used to enhance meditation and spiritual connections, Young Living Inspiration™ helps you set a calm environment conducive to accessing your higher intuition and creativity. This beautiful blend includes cedarwood, Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood, frankincense, coriander and vetiver. You can also apply this blend topically. Lovely areas for application are the crown of your head, along the centre of your back, the tips of your ears, feet, wrists and shoulders.
Young Living Gathering™
Creativity and confusion often dance hand in hand. It’s not always finding inspiration that’s the challenge. Sometimes having too many ideas exploding at once is the problem. This can lead to overwhelm and feeling scattered with lots of options and choices and a sense that you’ll never be able to use or pull together all of them. Knowing which ideas are for now and which are for later can be stressful. Index cards great for keeping note of all these thoughts, as you can put each single concept on a separate card and lay them out to find threads that might link them – or put them aside for another project/story/artwork altogether. Meanwhile, inhaling an essential oil that helps protect you from the bombardment of chaotic thoughts and energies can bring you a sense of feeling grounded, calm and in control of yourself.
Young Living Gathering™ includes vetiver, cinnamon bark and rose. It’s best used via inhalation (direct and through diffusing) rather than applying topically, due to possible skin sensitivity.
Young Living Motivation™
Knock procrastination for a six with Young Living Motivation™. Its gentle fragrance coaxes you to be productive and induces action and focus. It includes the single oils of roman chamomile, Northern Lights Black Spruce, ylang ylang (wonderful for balancing masculine and feminine energies) and lavender (calming and centering). You can apply it topically (diluted) over your heart, ears, throat, wrists, temples, feet, neck and chest.
This will also connect you up with The Good Oil Team for our personal support and coaching. We'd love to help you on your journey to vibrant well-being the natural way!
