Does your head ever feel like half of Kuala Lumpur’s macaque monkey population is fighting over lunch inside it?
Today’s essential oil spotlight shines on clary sage and it’s a great one for soothing the mind chatter.
Clary sage (Salvia sclarea) derives its common name from ‘clarus’ meaning ‘clear’. Actually, in the Middle Ages it was known as ‘clear eyes’ which might also have referred to clarity of mind – seeing things clearly – since that’s one of its benefits. And to energise your mind for specific tasks like studying and exams, inhaling clary sage is a gem.
Clary sage seeds are used as a flavour enhancer for muscatel wine, earning it the nickname ‘muscatel sage’ in some regions.
But it’s the flowering plant from which the essential oil (high in linalyl acetate) is steam distilled. Clary sage is grown on Young Living’s own farms in Simiane-La-Rotonde and Mona, Utah. Having their own farms makes Young Living (our preferred source of essential oils) extra special. Seeing the process through from Seed to Seal® gives you the confidence to know you can trust their dedication to providing you with the best available essential oils on the planet.
So, along with giving your monkey mind a rest, what else is clary sage good for?
If your heart and mind are feeling sad or heavy, clary sage can lighten the load. Sometimes when we’re feeling down, our thoughts can spiral into strange places and create a sense of crisis over things that don’t warrant it – things we wouldn’t feel so paranoid or concerned about if our spirits were in a good place. Clary sage can clear density from the heavy energy that contributes to obsessive thoughts and confusion.
This energy sometimes gathers in the solar plexus region so if it feels tight, uncomfortable or heavy, it can be pleasantly relaxing to lightly massage clary sage diluted in a good quality carrier oil over your abdomen, solar plexus and lower back.
If you’re a sensitive soul who responds very easily to things, you might find the effects of clary sage and blends high in clary sage a smidge overwhelming. Incorporating use of a grounding oil like vetiver, patchouli or sandalwood with clary sage could help you enjoy its benefits fully.
You’ll find clary sage in several Young Living oil blends including Into the Future™, Live with Passion™ and Transformation™. Now that you know about some of its traits, those choices will make lots of sense to you.
How do you use clary sage?
Dilute with carrier oil for topical application and massage, and apply on chakras. It’s especially useful for the 3rd eye, throat, heart and navel chakras. You can also inhale it directly from the bottle or cupped hands and add it to your diffuser.
Clary sage is not recommended for use during pregnancy. When it comes to using oils during pregnancy, please consult with your healthcare professional as suggested in the usual guidelines for safe use.
Enjoy the good oil daily.
