“To let go is to release the images and emotions, the grudges and fears, the clingings and disappointments of the past that bind our spirit.” Jack Kornfield
(Companion oil: Young Living Release™)
Have you ever offered your shoulder to someone so they can sob all over it fresh from a relationship break-up? (I know, it was Valentine’s Day only a week ago — but heck, these things happen.)
And maybe you patted them in consolation and desperately wracked your brain for something helpful to say, other than “My goodness, is that the time already?” (Blokes, it’s ok, you can admit you’ve had that thought. And hopefully, you didn’t act on it.)
Did you trot out that wise, golden chestnut by Kahlil Gibran? You know, that oldie but goodie: “If you love somebody, let them go, for if they return, they were always yours. If they don’t, they never were.”
This has two likely outcomes. One results in the escalation of sobbing and the addition of wailing — uh-oh ! But if you’re lucky, the other results in a gradual subsiding to the point of sniffles, perhaps a hiccup (if so, try this) and acceptance of your offered tissue before philosophically considering maybe it was for the best in the end.
Kahlil Gibran’s quote is about release, just like our featured quote for today. I suspect in theory, most of us ‘get this’ deep down in our inner knowing. It’s just a question of how willing we are to embrace it when our emotions are raw and we’re grappling with the notion !
All kinds of insecurities, past experiences and deep-seated emotional blocks can cause us to want to hang onto things instead of releasing and letting go. And egos can get in the road as well, not wanting to let go of something because our ego doesn’t want to accept it wasn’t meant for us.
It might stem from a feeling of lack — a fear that if you relax and give up whatever is holding you back or causing you pain, nothing as good or better will come along to replace it.
Essential oils really are wondrous things. When we consciously don’t even know why we’re feeling as we do, they can go to the source and bring some relief.
If you want to play along, here’s a game for next time you’re feeling out of balance and can’t put your finger on why. It’s kind of like ‘spin the bottle’ but no kissing is involved. (Sorry.) Go to your oils collection. Inhale and exhale slowly a few times, holding the intention that the perfect oil will come forth for you. Close your eyes and open your oils bag, drawer, alphabetical filing system or however you choose to arrange them. Reach out and the first bottle you touch? Take it as the universe giving you a helping hand and use it.
Today, though, we’re talking specifically about releasing, and Young Living Release™ is one of the most powerful of their ‘feelings’ blends.
Release™ promotes harmony, balance and peacefulness, and includes ylang ylang (for equilibrium), geranium (for releasing negative memories), sandalwood (used traditionally in yoga and meditation) and blue tansy (for defusing anger). Olive oil is included within this blend to help absorption. This humble carrier oil was considered a magical source for the fountain of youth, wealth and power — go figure ! I’ll add an extra splash to my salad dressings in future.
On a practical tangent, if you’ve been given a t-shirt that says, “Hang on, that will come in handy someday!” and believe hoarding is a valuable skill rather than something in need of an intervention — try applying Release™ next time decluttering is on the household agenda and see if it helps.
This will also connect you up with The Good Oil Team for our personal support and coaching. We'd love to help you on your journey to vibrant well-being the natural way!

If your shoulders are called on this weekend, tuck some Release™ into your bag or pocket, throw in some tissues — maybe the extra help releasing will call for a Family Size Pack, but better that than storing the tears away for safe keeping.
