“Out of clutter, find simplicity.” Albert Einstein
(Companion oil: Young Living Joy™)
There’s nothing like moving home to make you spectacularly aware of the volume of your belongings — and the mysterious power of just one small cupboard of them to fill half a dozen packing boxes.
It certainly ups the ante on any half-baked de-cluttering promises we make to ourselves in well-settled times.
If letting go of things doesn’t come easily to you, Marie Kondo could be the mentor you need. Forget the process of ongoing regular de-cluttering, and instead, have a significant and profound declutterfest by following the principles prescribed in her compact and no-nonsense book, ‘The Life- Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Tidying’.
Central to her process is the sense of joy.
According to Marie, “During the selection process, if you come across something that does not spark joy but that you just can’t bring yourself to throw away, stop a moment and ask yourself, ‘Am I having trouble getting rid of this because of an attachment to the past or because of a fear for the future?’ It’s important to understand your ownership pattern because it is an expression of the values that guide your life. The question of what you want to own is actually the question of how you want to live your life.”
I confess, I’ve moved twice in the past year and still haven’t quite come to terms with saying “Bye bye,” to things I know I don’t really need or use. Now that the removalist trucks have driven away again, it would be easy to let it all slide but I know I want to streamline. When I do, I’m hoping Ms Kondo’s guidance will give me the inspiring epiphany I need.
If you’re wondering how her method stacks up when put to the test and her best-seller status isn’t proof enough (after all, buying a book isn’t the same as implementing what’s between the covers), New York Times contributor Penelope Green writes about it here. Hint: you’ll have a black belt in folding and rolling by the time you’re done.
To help you tap into what sparks joy, Young Living’s essential oil blend named Joy™ will be a lovely way to complement to the process. And Release™ won’t go astray, either.
To order Young Living Joy™ and Release™, please contact me and I’ll give you a hand.
Joy™ can be worn as a perfume, and running your cold-air diffuser with Release™ will make the air in your home smell beautiful while adding pure goodness to the air — with not a whiff of harmful synthetics to be found. Come to think of it, using these as mood-setting preparation for a couple of weeks before you tackle things would be a great way to increase your willingness to take action and see it through.
Have a great weekend, and enjoy the good oil daily.
