“Get yourself grounded and you can navigate even the stormiest roads in peace.” Steve Goodier
(Companion oil: Young Living Grounding™)
When we talk of someone we know as being a grounded person, have you noticed how solid and reassuring that sounds?
Do you feel a sense of kinship, or a smidge of longing and envy instead? (If you’re a sailor or a teenager, relax. We’re talking about the good kind of grounding.)
The Grounded Person is someone you want around when things are going south.
The Grounded Person is someone you turn to when the iceberg is dead ahead.
The Grounded Person lives in all of us, but sometimes we can’t find them for all the running around in a panic and shouting — which ironically, is when we need them the most.
Maybe the grounded person spends more time earthing themselves. In a nutshell, sitting, standing or walking on grass, sand, dirt or concrete — preferably damp for better conduction — gives you an energy infusion from the ground that can lead to a profound sense of relaxation, calm and a peaceful night’s sleep. This concept is known as ‘earthing’ or ‘grounding’.
Long, long ago, doing this was a natural part of our daily life. But now, because we spend little or no time with our bare feet in contact with the earth in this way, the positively-charged free radicals that build up within our bodies keep circulating within us rather than allowing the transfer of negatively-charged electrons from the surface of the earth into our bodies to neutralise them.
You can check out a cute and simple animation on how it all works here, or for the more comprehensive grown-up explanation, Dr Mercola talks here with an expert on the matter. As described by Dr Mercola,
“It is known that the Earth maintains a negative electrical potential on its surface. When you are in direct contact with the ground (walking, sitting, or laying down on the earth’s surface) the earth’s electrons are conducted to your body, bringing it to the same electrical potential as the earth. Living in direct contact with the earth grounds your body, inducing favorable physiological and electrophysiological changes that promote optimum health.”
Asphalt, wood, rugs and carpets, rubber and plastic prevent this exchange from happening, so if you’re walking outside in your good old rubber thongs, you’re stopping this energetic flow from occurring. (Note for our overseas readers : when I say, ‘thongs’, I’m talking flip-flops, not underwear!)
Research shows that earthing/grounding is effectively providing you with a tremendous antioxidant boost. And it’s free! It’s well documented that antioxidants are a great way to head off inflammation. So surely this alone is a great reason to kick off our shoes and make like little kids again in places where it’s safe to do so.
“It is my conclusion that the human mind and body is essentially a single cell rechargeable battery that is charged from the atmospheric DC voltage and the Earth.” Steven Magee, Health Forensics
Now, let’s move from the physical to the feelings side of being grounded.
When we’re feeling settled and stable, we can cope constructively with reality. When our anchor has come adrift, we can lose awareness and make poor choices and decisions in both personal life and business.
If your sense of grounding is foundering, there’s a wonderful essential oil blend formulated by Young Living to help you get anchored again in a safe harbour.
Young Living Grounding™ includes these uplifting essential oils:
- White fir (empowering)
- ylang ylang (balances yin and yang and gives confidence a leg up)
- angelica (helps release negative patterns)
This will also connect you up with The Good Oil Team for our personal support and coaching. We'd love to help you on your journey to vibrant well-being the natural way!

I love applying Grounding™ to the soles of my feet then cupping my hands together over my nose and inhaling deeply. This simple way of using oils is super-effective, especially when it comes to ‘feel good’ oils which reach the control centre of our emotions very quickly when inhaled. I wonder how it feels to walk barefoot on wet grass after rubbing some Grounding™ into my feet? Sounds good to me.
Have a great weekend, and enjoy the good oil daily.
