“People who say they sleep like a baby usually don’t have one.” Leo J. Burke

(Companion oil: Young Living Gentle Baby™)

It’s been a long, long time since I had babies keeping me awake at night. But it only feels like yesterday in some ways. (A lifetime ago in others. Funny how that works !)

Sometimes we had band rehearsals in our lounge room when our daughters were sleeping. And this was in a small old timber home with thin walls and bedrooms directly off the lounge — not rattling around in a different wing à la Donald Trump’s house. Talk about increasing the degree of difficulty, you might say. But funnily enough, it seemed to send them off to sleep. I’m glad it didn’t have the same effect on our audiences.

You might be expecting a thoughtful, deep and possibly meaningful Feel Good Friday post, waxing on about how precious babies are and what we can learn from them. But today, I’m all about practicality and finding an easy solution to a pressing problem.  After all, when babies are troubled, it’s no fun.

It’s upsetting for them and frustrating for parents who want to make everything better and don’t know how. And it usually leads to lack of quality sleep for mums and dads that can also rub off onto siblings.  Heaven knows brothers and sisters have enough adjusting to do when a new addition comes into the family.  Add sleep deprivation and you have a sure fire recipe for tears and cranky-pants. And that’s just the parents !

I’m often asked if there’s a good combination of essential oils to diffuse in the nursery to help create a mellow vibe that’s comforting for babies.

And it’s a huge relief to be able to say, “Yes, there is !”

Best of all, it’s totally natural, unlike virtually every other air freshener out in the marketplace. Those things are laden with harmful synthetic substances that have a very disturbing potential for long-term damage. You can’t do much about it when you’re out and about in the big, wide world, but you can be proactively clean and green when it comes to the products you choose for your home and minimise your exposure. (I’m so passionate about it, I made a video. You can check it out here and please do.)

Young Living has formulated a blend called Gentle Babies™.  All it’s made of is 100% authentic and soothing essential oils used since ye very olden days for relaxation and calming, including:

  • geranium (relaxing)
  • rosewood (grounding)
  • jasmine (helps uplift a sense of exhaustion)

By diffusing for short periods in the nursery, you can keep the air sweet-smelling — and it will rub off on everyone’s demeanours as well. You’ll find our tips for diffusing here.

To order Young Living Gentle Baby™, please contact me and I’ll give you a hand.

Another great way to use Gentle Baby™ is to put a couple of drops in the final rinse when washing baby clothes and bedding.

And you can smooth a drop into the ends of your hair so that when you’re cuddling your bub, they’ll be comforted by the smell of your tresses. Menfolk, no need to revisit your long 70s hair or a mullet — unless you’re glad of an excuse to do so — just work with whatever you have. Try it and let me know how it goes for you and your little one.

Bonus Tip:   There’s no need to reserve it for the baby’s room. Diffuse Gentle Baby™ anywhere and everywhere you want to send peace vibes floating into the air. Cold-air diffusion turns oils into a superfine mist that hangs in the air for quite some time, allowing the beneficial properties of your chosen single or blend to do their thing without any mess or fuss.

Have a great weekend, and enjoy the good oil daily.
