This morning, I saw car-park rage looming when someone swiped another person’s patiently-awaited spot. I resisted the urge to wave my bottle of Young Living Peace & Calming® under their flaring nostrils but those handbags looked heavy and I doubted I could dodge them quickly enough.
If every car on the road came with a diffuser of this white dove of essential oil blends, I’m convinced there would be no such thing as road rage. Mind you, everyone would be driving at half the speed limit in their chilled state and they would take twice as long to get anywhere. But no-one would stress or shake a fist over it. (It’s a nice dream to have.)
Peace and Calming® is one of those must-have scented helpers we know as everyday oils (and included in the Everyday Oil Collection which covers just about every contingency known). You can read our tips for the others here.
Its gorgeous fragrance comes about through the combination of ylang ylang, patchouli and blue tansy with the feel-good citrus oils of tangerine and orange.
Orange (Citrus sinenses) was evaluated for its relaxing effect on humans in a controlled study, Effect of sweet orange aroma on experimental anxiety (Goes TC, et al., 2012).
Armed with this knowledge, you’ll see a recurring theme in our top 9 tips for this blend whose name gives no surprises. Please remember to follow the usual guidelines for safe use of authentic essential oils and dilute if needed.
This will also connect you up with The Good Oil Team for our personal support and coaching. We'd love to help you on your journey to vibrant well-being the natural way!

- Sweet-smelling home one of the most beautiful fragrances you can imagine, consider this as an exquisite signature scent for your home and diffuse it frequently; put 30 to 40 drops in a glass spray bottle of distilled water and spritz the air as a welcome before guests arrive
- Sweeten temperaments: banish Cranky-Pants the name of this essential oil blend says it all, so whenever big or little kids are feeling fractious and out of sorts, chase after them with your spray bottle (kidding!) Stay with the safe and dignified options: diffuse and if they are receptive, apply a few drops to the soles of their feet; apply a few drops to your wrists then give them a hug
- Settle squirming, overactive fidgets and restlessness diffuse, apply a couple of drops to the soles of the feet if possible and cup your hands over their nose for inhalation — then yours! (Do not allow contact with eyes)
- Sweet dreams diffuse in the bedroom as a prelude to sleep; smooth a couple of drops onto the soles of the feet and across the shoulders before tucking into bed; give their favourite fluffy sleep toy the same treatment to keep them smelling pleasant between washes and give your kids a soothing top-up when they snuggle in; this tip applies to adults, too (with or without the teddy bear — whatever works for you!)
- Laundry spritz for bed linen in nursery and kids room take your spray bottle of Peace & Calming® in water and before you hang freshly washed sheets and nursery bedding on the line, shake the bottle well and give the laundry a spritz to gently scent it when dry (make up a stronger mix for this purpose if desired and test in an inconspicuous place first)
- Massage or bath oil dilute 1:15 in a pure vegetable carrier oil for a blissfully relaxing massage or bath (if you prefer bubbles in your tub, add several drops to a hefty slug of your favourite natural bath or shower gel)
- Relax physical tensions like teeth grinding diffuse while sleeping
- Tame the green-eyed monster apply to wrists and edges of ears if jealousy, obsessions and insecurities are rearing their heads (the patchouli helps with this)
- Release ‘Annoyance on the Liver’ no cussing is allowed here at The Good Oil Daily, so this is the family-friendly version of a common expression. Smooth a drop or two directly over the liver. Or massage into the fleshy part of your right palm about 1/3 of the way down, in a smidge from the outer edge — use your left thumb and massage around in clockwise circles — no need to be too precise, the general vicinity is fine (the blue tansy helps combat anger and negative feelings)
