“A grateful heart is a beginning of greatness. It is an expression of humility. It is a foundation for … prayer, faith, courage, contentment, happiness, love, and well-being.” James E. Faust
(Companion oil: Young Living Humility™)
Confidence and humility. The fine line between healthy belief in oneself and cockiness can be easily wobbled on, especially if you’re pushing self-development weights designed to unleash the power within.
Empowering yourself to take on challenges is positive, so I’m not having a go at Anthony Robbins here. But in our earnest willingness to constantly self-improve, there’s a risk of accidental self-absorption on the flip side of the shiny gold coin. It’s a coin which I will stoop to pick up so I’m affirming to the universe that I gladly and gratefully accept its abundance in all shapes and sizes. I’ve read many books on abundance, as you can see. And yes, there’s an oil to help with that!
Jason Meyer delves into humility in relation to spirituality and religion in his article Think of Yourself Less, and says:
“Humility is fundamentally a form of self-forgetfulness as opposed to pride’s self-fixation. Humility can set you free because when you think about yourself less you are free to think about Christ more. Humility puts us on the path of grace; pride puts us on the path of opposition.” Jason Meyer
This philosophy expands to our family, friends and workmates. When you think about yourself less, you are free to think about your loved ones more. The challenge, again, is finding the balance.
Being humble doesn’t mean becoming a doormat and putting everyone else’s needs first. We can be humble while still paying attention to our self-love radar. Taking care of yourself so you can take care of others is vital to keeping your tanks topped up for the duration.
So how do you find that delicate balance? What’s the key to having your humility and keeping your self-esteem too?
Today’s quote by James E Faust is a very easy way to simplify things. Can a grateful heart be the rudder that steers you in navigating the fine line between healthy belief in yourself and cockiness that we talked about earlier? Can having a grateful heart give you an immediate and effortless connection with humility? It sure can’t hurt to give it a try.
I remember a great quote by Cate Blanchett along the lines of ‘the less I think about how happy I am, the happier I become.’ Following that for daily inspiration is another easy recipe for finding a healthy degree of humility.
