Essential oils are awesome mood-lifters. But we can forget to use them when we’re down and could benefit from them most – for instance, if unemployed and struggling with fears and doubts that can start to take over when feeling vulnerable.
In the initial days, you bounce out of bed ready to search and positive you’ll find something quickly. But as time goes on, that positivity can start to falter.
Essential oils won’t get you a job. (That said, loving essential oils and wanting to help others to do the same can bring you a nice income. Young Living membership comes with a business opportunity. If you want to take advantage of it, please get in touch and we’ll talk.)
But with their uplifting effects and ability to balance and energise, they can keep your feelings on track and help you to stay in a proactive frame of mind and not lose your bundle, drop your basket or sit in a corner weaving one.
The essential oils I use and recommend are those produced by Young Living. All their oils are guaranteed pure from seed to seal, unlike so many brands out there in the marketplace. You really do get what you pay for. You can check it out with your own eyes in this short video.
Diffusing and direct inhalation from the bottle are the quickest ways to influence your mood. Our olfactory system – sense of smell – is linked directly with the limbic region which is hooked to our feelings. Smelling the oils is a direct route to where they need to go. You’ll find our guide to diffusing here. Essential oils are potent, so as always, please follow directions on the bottle and the usual guidelines for safe use of authentic essential oils.

Frankincense
High in sesquiterpenes, this oil elevates the mind and lifts the spirits. When left to your own thoughts for too long, it’s easy for them to do a downward spiral and even lead to catastrophizing. Frankincense can restore perspective. More on frankincense here.
Lemon
Citrus oils in general are ‘feel good’ oils. Lemon in particular is both relaxing and energising, and encourages clarity and purpose. Young Living Lemon essential oil can be added to food and drinks, too, so a drop of lemon in a glass of warm water is a super-positive way to start each day. Top 9 tips for lemon here. Note: not all oils/brands are suitable for this. Please only add essential oils to food if the label indicates you can do so.
Rosemary
If opening the job vacancies boards feels beyond you, rosemary essential oil can give you a nudge. Rosemary is excellent for clarity and keeping your mind trained where it needs to be.
Young Living Valor™
One of Young Living’s foundation oils, Valor™ is a blend including spruce, rosewood, blue tansy and frankincense. It’s a wonderful balancer in general and provides a beautiful base before using other ‘feelings’ oils. Valor™ can help instil feelings of courage and self-confidence. Try Young Living Highest Potential™ if Valor™ is out of stock, as occasionally happens due to seasonal shortages.
Young Living Believe™
The name is the big giveaway here. No surprises in store. It smells so wonderful that many people use it as their 100% natural perfume/fragrance. A dab behind each ear can set your day up beautifully.
Young Living Abundance™
It can be easy to slide into feeling a lack of abundance if you’re out of work. This spicy essential oil blend helps you feel comforted, secure and magnetic.
Young Living Motivation™
Again, the name says it all, pretty much. If your motivation has gone missing, inhaling Motivation™ oil is a great first step in regaining it.

Reconnecting with your sense of purpose and what gets you out of bed in the morning – job or no job – is another way to rekindle your drive. Use the extra time to achieve things on your Bucket List that you’re often too busy to do when you have a job. If you can pick up a new skill that will be a great addition to your CV while you’re at it, even better.
And perhaps most important of all? Get plenty of quality sleep, water and exercise. Feeling rested, hydrated and being active, even in a gentle way like going for a walk, are three of the best things you can do to feel positive about life.
All the best with your search.
