Inhale Young Living Common Sense™ while planning and packing for your trip to hone your decision-making.
This very practical-sounding essential oil includes some oils that are a bit off the beaten track versus the common ones we hear of all the time:
- ocotea (stabilising in ‘fight or flight’ situations)
- goldenrod (relaxing)
- ruta (calming)
- dorado azul (rich in constituents known to calm the breath)
Ruta comes from Young Living’s own farm in Ecuador. And Dorado Azul (also from Ecuador) was not recognised for its special botanical qualities until around 2006, when Young Living founder Gary Young analysed what was considered a common weed and found its wealth of attributes to be far from that.
Ocotea quixos is known throughout Ecuador as false cinnamon, although cinnamon’s key constituent trans-cinnamaldehyde is only found in trace amounts in ocotea. This exotic oil is steam distilled from the leaves of a massive tree that grows throughout the wilderness and ranges of Ecuador, Central and South America to over 18 metres/60 feet.
Since the oils in this blend are so well-travelled, it’s kind of fun that they combine to create an aromatic experience that can help you put together a trip schedule and dress for it accordingly !
Diffuse Common Sense™ while you’re packing, and you can use it as your 100% natural fragrance while travelling.
Essential oils are potent, so please follow directions on the bottle and the usual guidelines for safe use of authentic essential oils.
Not all essential oils are created equal. Far from it. Quality varies immensely, so please ensure you are choosing a brand with complete transparency from seed to seal, such as Young Living. Discover why we love them so much in this short video.

As for packing tips, here are a few of my favourites.
Stick with neutral colours. These will all work in fine with each other so you’ll find it much easier to stay with the essentials and mix and match them around and layer them. If navy, black and grey aren’t your thing, opt for varying shades of browns and greens.
Take more tops than bottoms. It seems obvious but it’s easy to forget and toss in ‘just in case’ extras you really don’t need.
Avoid travelling in winter if you want to pack light. It might sound like a weird tip, but travelling in summer means lighter fabrics (easier to fit in your carry-on) and quicker drying time when you wash your clothes and hope to dry them overnight. And yes, this tip is useless if you love snow skiing!
Pretty much everything should serve double-duty, including your toothpaste. Menfolk: choose light-weight pants that can be worn whether hiking or going out for a meal. Cargo pants that can be adjusted in length are great. Stick with plain, dark colours as they are more forgiving when it comes to dirt, and style details tend to get lost on dark colours so it’s easier for them to look dressier. Stay with straight legs or slightly tapered to keep it stylish. Womenfolk: plain swimming togs (one piece bathing suit) with a racer back can be worn with jeans, skirt or pants away from the beach and pool. And a long t-shirt can also be used for sleeping and a beach cover-up.
Never take brand new shoes with you. Travelling is not the time to figure out you can only wear them for an hour before getting a blister the size of your thumbnail.
