Are you really getting the peaceful slumber and quality of sleep you dream of? It’s time to take a good look at your bedroom and assess how conducive it is to setting a peaceful ambience with the air quality and freshness you need.
First things, first. Throw open those windows and take a look at what’s filtering the air when it comes through your window. If your window dressings haven’t been cleaned in a while, time to tackle them.
For fabric curtains, check the care label. If washable, add few drops of authentic lavender and Young Living Thieves® to a washcloth and pop in with the final rinse for added freshness and a beautiful natural scent.
If they aren’t washable, gently vacuuming with a soft brush upholstery head is a good way to lift the dust and carry it away. Most window treatments can be cleaned this way, whether curtains, roman blinds or timber blinds and shutters. Be sure to vacuum the reverse side and along the tops as well.
Sleep with your windows open enough to ensure you have a good supply of oxygenated air. A stuffy bedroom can have you waking up with a stuffy ‘cotton-wool’ feeling in your head even if you’ve had enough hours.
How is the Zen rating on your bedroom when you look around for surface clutter? Unread books on the side table can send out guilt vibes before you switch off the light. Choose one that you’d most love to read right now and put the rest back into the bookcase! Piles of clothes on the floor? Toss them in the laundry hamper or toss them over a hanger. Deal with them later if you have to. It’s not an ideal solution but for today’s mission, we’re focusing on your bedroom space so get them out of there.
Do a ‘joy check’ of everything in your bedroom. If you look around and spot anything that causes a stomach knot or makes you feel heavy rather than light, can you move it on? If it’s something your significant other adores, can you feel better about it by focusing on its importance and meaning to them? Simply noticing the feeling and making a conscious choice to accept it can make all the difference in the world.
Make the bedroom a gadget-free zone. There are oodles of studies out there evidencing how detrimental it is to keep your brain whirring by engaging with your laptop, smartphone or telly at night. If you’re finding it hard to break the habit, switch to reading a good old-fashioned printed book or magazine instead. You’re still being entertained or educated but without the screen brightness interfering with your circadian rhythms. Consider getting an alarm clock rather than using the one on your phone. Do whatever you can to minimise the electrical emissions around you while you sleep.
Let your mattress air. Strip the bedding and spritz the mattress with Young Living Thieves® Spray then let it breathe for as long as you can before making up the bed to freshen and help with cleansing. If you can get the mattress under some sunlight, even better.
When laundering your mattress protectors and sheets, add a cloth with a half dozen drops of eucalyptus radiata and lavender to the final rinse for extra oomph.
Keep a Young Living RutaVaLa™ or Tranquil™ Roll-on by your bed to apply before retiring and pave the way for restful slumber. Both include carrier oil so they are diluted and ready for direct application. RutaVaLa includes oils of ruta graveolens (an exotic oil from Ecuador), lavender and valerian. Tranquil is a placid sweet-smelling combination of lavender, cedarwood and roman chamomile essential oils.
Setting a timer on your diffuser to create a fine mist of relaxing molecules in the bedroom around bedtime is another beautiful way to incorporate oils into your sleep habit support systems. Peace and Calming™ is a great place to start.
Essential oils are potent, so as always, please follow directions on the bottle and the usual guidelines for safe use of authentic essential oils.
Not all oils are created equal. Far from it. Quality varies immensely, so please ensure you are choosing a brand with complete transparency from seed to seal, such as Young Living. Discover why we love them so much in this short video.
This will also connect you up with The Good Oil Team for our personal support and coaching. We'd love to help you on your journey to vibrant well-being the natural way!
