“It is not the beauty of a building you should look at; it’s the construction of the foundation that will stand the test of time.” David Allan Coe
Turn on the telly and the renovating shows are still well entrenched in viewing lives.
I thought it was a passing fad. Surely once the novelty wore off, we would tire of watching people pull apart their homes at the seams and put them back together again? If you’ve ever renovated, you know it really isn’t that much fun!
Maybe we just enjoy the voyeuristic thrill of being part of it without having to do any sledgehammering ourselves.
The steady-to-sharp incline of house prices over the past little while has fuelled the DIY and renovating trend, with many of us doing some maths and opting to stay put where we are and invest in improvements to the current set-up. Or as always, lots of us just enjoy putting down roots for a period of time and staying where fond memories dwell. And is the devil you know better than the hidden issues in a new home that only reveal themselves to you only once the contract has settled? Ah, there’s always something.
Traditionally, thoughts of having a few jobs done around the house land in the couple of months leading up to Christmas. And if you aren’t the DIY type, waking in a cold sweat with visions of family members putting your home through its paces has led to many a panicked phone call to a tradie, I’m betting on it.
Everyone is up against the clock at this time of year. Try getting anything done in a timely fashion. I’ve been going through that myself in the past couple of months and all I can say is thank goodness I have essential oils to help keep my patience patient and my goodwill good. (You can check out why I always choose those produced by Young Living in this video here.)
I leap on returned phone calls with promises of double strength rumballs in exchange for pinning down a start date, and thank my lucky stars if someone does come back with a quote within a couple of days of the timeframe promised.
Small mercies.
Pumping out a microfine mist of potent essential oil molecules 24/7, I have several diffusers stationed around my home and I’ve had Young Living Peace & Calming™, Stress Away™ and Believe™ in constant rotation. (For a single oil alternative, use authentic orange oil along with lavendula angustifolia)
Hope™ springs eternal thanks to rubbing a few drops on my wrists and over my heart from dawn to dusk.

The wait hasn’t been all bad, though. Oddly enough — or no big surprise for anyone who believes in the universe working in mysterious ways — it forced me to slow down a bit and new solutions to vexing problems made themselves known.
The order of my plan of attack evolved and I realised I had some steps in reverse order and would have caused myself (and the tradies!) a few unnecessary headaches as the job progressed, not to mention added expense. (Hello, Abundance™. I’ll be rubbing you into the soles of my feet when going to bed and before getting up each morning.)
So how about the formative stages of renovating or building? Do your ideas run so freely you have to borrow the neighbour’s cattle dog to round them up? Or do you know you want to change things but find it hard to pin down what it really is you want to achieve?
Authentic peppermint oil is great for helping with clarity, and even better are Gathering™ and — ready? — Clarity™.
And if coming up with your vision for what you want the renovation to achieve is proving to be more of a struggle than you realised, Envision™ and Build Your Dream™ are beautiful oil blends to alternate. Both can be inhaled directly from the bottle, diffused, or used as your own 100% natural personal fragrance daily.
Essential oils are potent, so as always, check the labels and follow the usual guidelines for safe use of authentic oils.
Excuse me while I answer the phone faster than you can say, “I’ll call you tonight!” I have a slab to be poured.
Have a great weekend, and enjoy the good oil daily.
