Being grateful is pretty easy when life is good and the world – or our neck of the woods, at least – is in stable and fortunate shape.
But we can lose touch with our gratitude when life is turned upside down – when you feel like we’re suddenly in a bizarre snow dome being shaken and turned upside down and nothing is where it normally belongs.
When people around us – and maybe including us – are suddenly doing it tough, when life’s wonderful norms for those of us in developed countries are put on pause, when for an unknown duration, things we take for granted suddenly become things of which we can only dream.
When humankind’s fragility is brought to the forefront and has to be faced, and we realise how very vulnerable we are so many ways.
When the only thing that feels certain is uncertainty.
When we need it the very most, the importance of being grateful can too easily be forgotten.
But expressing gratitude every day for the blessings in our life makes us focus on small gestures and simple things.
It helps us to remember that much of what we think is essential in life is a want, not a need.
It helps us to see past the grand and superfluous and instead, acknowledge and appreciate the simple things of greatest value.
And funnily enough – though I’m not telling you anything you don’t know, I’m sure – the truly valuable things in life often cost us not in dollars, but in our time and attention.
Things like our health, having people and pets to love and people who love us, creating time in our day to exercise in whatever way supports us best. Taking time to stop and literally smell the roses and better yet, plant some. Giving and receiving smiles. Cleaning the bird bath and enjoying their antics. Having a sunbath in the gentle morning light. Getting out of bed early to watch the sun rise. Watching the setting sun spread pink and gold watercolours into the horizon. Telling someone they are special to us. Making a new friend. Checking in on people to make sure they are OK. Helping someone in need. All these things are the true meaningful stuff of life.
When we’re in the rush of daily life, time is at a premium, and yet we constantly divvy it up based on allocation of dollars to objects rather than true worth. Currently many of us find ourselves with more time on our hands. So let’s be incredibly grateful for it and use it wisely.
A beautiful, simple and sweet-smelling way to turn up your gratitude is by diffusing, inhaling and topically applying Young Living Gratitude™ essential oil blend. It was formulated to foster an attitude of gratitude and being glad of our blessings.
Fragrance-wise, this is one of my favourite Young Living oils! And the feeling it gives me when I inhale it and rub it into my wrists is so uplifting and peaceful, it really does help put things into perspective. Young Living Acceptance™ is a lovely companion oil for Gratitude™. It helps open you up to receive even more blessings and allow life to flow.
Young Living Gratitude™ includes the essential oils of Balsam Canada, Frankincense, Coriander, Myrrh, Ylang Ylang, Furocoumarin-free Bergamot (removing furocoumarin is a safe process that reduces risk of interaction if exposed to the sun after applying), Northern Lights Black Spruce, Vetiver and Geranium. Several of these are spiritual oils – ones that help us to tune into a higher power, quieten our minds and elevate them all at the same time.

Here are 5 easy and enjoyable ways to incorporate Young Living Gratitude™ into your every day.
- Keep a bottle on your bedside table and when you wake and retire to bed, smooth a drop between your wrists, bring to your nose and deeply inhale while giving thanks
- Use it as your personal 100% natural fragrance by pressing a drop or two behind your ears, over your heart and pulse points (test for skin sensitivity first as always – personally I’ve never had to dilute it but we’re all different)
- Turn your shower into a gratitude session by adding Gratitude™ to unscented natural shower gel (Young Living Bath & Shower Gel Base is rich in botanicals, free of nasties and lathers beautifully)
- Set aside just a few minutes a day to diffuse Gratitude while writing in your Gratitude Journal and feel your spirits expanding while a sense of calm descends. Follow this up with writing a Thank You card to someone in your life who you feel could really do with some cheer
- Give your feet a massage with Gratitude™ added to Young Living V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Complex or other pure carrier oil – and offer to give your loved ones Gratitude™ foot rubs, too. Bonus tip: put a couple of drops of Peppermint essential oil and a glug of carrier oil into a bucket of warm water and have a relaxing foot soak before following up with your Gratitude™ foot massage and pop on cotton socks afterwards while your feet keep absorbing the oils. Especially beautiful just before bed. Bliss!
Essential oils are potent, so as always, please follow directions on the bottle and the usual guidelines for safe use of authentic essential oils.
Please ensure you are choosing a brand with complete transparency from seed to seal, such as Young Living. You can learn in this short video why we only ever recommend and choose Young Living oils and love them so much!
