There’s such a thing as good Thieves? It’s true. These kinds of Thieves, you will love. More on that in a moment.

Speaking of doing things in a flash, when I pick up the groceries, I do my customary sprint past the household cleaning products aisle, breath held, so I can avoid those overwhelming smells and vapours catching in my throat and making my eyes water.

Sound familiar?

And these products are contained in sealed bottles. Yikes. Imagine what they do when unleashed on your home and office.

The more you can reduce your exposure to toxins, the less the load on your system. And the less the load on the planet when your cleaning products make their way into the environment.

There are several natural cleaning ingredients to handle the dirt, grime and who knows what your family and pets can come up with — and here’s where those well-meaning Thieves are welcome:

You can find plenty of tips online for using baking soda and vinegar for cleaning, and they are fantastic, cost-effective and natural. Great stuff.

But sometimes they require more time or elbow grease than I can spare in an average day, so I usually use the Thieves® products instead, or add them to turbo-charge the cleaning power and speed.

Thieves® was created by Young Living based on research about four thieves in France who covered themselves with cloves, rosemary, and other aromatics while robbing plague victims. So in the far less intense environment of cleaning your home and office, imagine how valuable and effective those ingredients can be. And all the while being kind to skin and noses. Win-win-win every way you look at it.

Here are a few of my favourites to get you started:

Whiffy or blocked drains

Pour in a hearty serve of baking soda (half a cup or so) down the plughole and pour white vinegar over it, with an optional slug of Young Living Thieves® Household Cleaner or a few drops of Thieves® essential oil blend to really help penetrate and zap away the smells. Allow to sit for 15-20 minutes, then pour a kettle of boiling water through. Repeat as often as needed.

Washing the car

Add one capful of Thieves® Household Cleaner to a bucket of lukewarm water and wash your car as you usually would. (As a bonus, you’ll find your car cleaning cloths wash up cleaner at the end, too.) For tar or stubborn marks, put a little Thieves® Spray onto a very soft cloth or use a Thieves® Wipe and gently rub the mark away and rinse the area. (Test on your car’s paintwork in an inconspicuous spot first.) Rinse and chamois your car off after cleaning as you would with any cleaning products.

Cleaning toilets

Keep a spray bottle of lightly diluted Thieves® Household Cleaner in the loo. Each day, give the bowl a quick spray, brush and flush, and spray the brush while you’re at it. This keeps things in a nice fresh state. If you need something heftier for extra sparkle, pour a cup of baking soda into the toilet and let it soak for a while. An hour is good but you have to time this routine well! Then pour in a cup of white vinegar and a dash of Thieves® Household Cleaner, leave for 5 mins, brush and flush.

Melting baked-on oven grime

This one is pretty amazing. In fact, it deserved a video.  Please click here to watch it.  Hang onto your hat!

As well as using Young Living’s ready-made range of cleaning products (click here for help with ordering), there are more ways of using essential oils for non-toxic, wonderful-smelling cleaning than I can possibly touch on in one post — so more of these tips will be coming. And we’d love to hear yours. Head over to Google+ or share them with us here.

Enjoy the good oil daily.
