From bliss bombs for your bath to Tour de France survival tips (apply to any sporting occasion requiring you to stay up all night) to differentiating between one lavender and the next, it’s been a big month for this particular flowering herb.
It’s harvest time, so there’s a good reason why.
Young Living grows its own lavender on farms in Simiane-la-Rotonde (Provence), St Maries (Idaho) and Mona (Utah) so it’s all systems go around this time of year for harvesting, processing and distilling at the optimal times to ensure the most exquisite and effective lavender on the planet. If you want to escape for a couple of minutes with a glimpse into that world, today’s video will hit the spot.
And now, as promised, here are our Top 9 tips for using The Universal Oil. It’s included in the Everyday Oils Collection (a super handy kit for getting started and you’ll find top 9 tips for the other ‘everyday oils’ here). But I highly recommend also having the 15mL size on hand at home and keeping the 5mL size from the Everyday Oils Collection in your purse or pocket. Think of it as your oils equivalent of the Swiss Army knife.
When using these tips, please bear in mind the usual guidelines for safe use of authentic essential oils.
- Relaxing and unwinding (rub on the soles of the feet then cup hands over your nose and inhale)
- Substitute for Counting Sheep (rub a drop between your palms, inhale then smooth over your pillow)
- Gentle skin soothing (dilute with carrier oil as needed)
- Relaxing hair and scalp rub (rub a few drops between your palms and fingers then massage your scalp all over for 5-10 minutes daily — add rosemary and cedarwood for extra potency)
- Deodorant (apply to the armpits)
- Spring air freshener (rub a drop between your palms and inhale)
- Insect repellent for you and your clothes (for you: add to a natural skin toner in a spray bottle with Young Living Purification™ and patchouli if you have them / for your clothes: put a few drops onto cedar chips or balls in your wardrobe, top up regularly)
- Laundry and linen freshener (add 6 drops to your laundry load)
- Happy car trips (inhale from the bottle or cupped hands, apply a drop behind the ears or around your tummy button — or both if you need to pull out all the stops)
Legend has it French scientist René Gattefossé was the first to rediscover true lavender’s power when he damaged his arm badly in a lab explosion and plunged it into essential oil of lavandula angustifolia. Not to be grateful for someone else’s misfortune, but in this instance, I’m glad the universe works in mysterious ways.
